Lesson 7.1: product pages AI can understand.

0:06Why product pages matter

Take Italy: thirty-five million people shop online there. And over 13% of them already rely on artificial intelligence. To do what? Mostly to compare prices and products: that's what 67% of the people who use it do. To compare your product with another one, an engine has to find the facts written on your product page. If they're not there, it compares someone else's.

0:31The description

Start with the description. The typical one is made of adjectives: perfect, high quality, for every occasion. A useful description says three things: who it's for, when to choose it, and what sets it apart. With real facts, not adjectives. So when someone asks which water bottle to pick for cycling, your answer is already written.

0:54Attributes, in text

Then the attributes: material, size, weight, colors, sizes, compatibility. Write them in text, ideally in a small table. A fact that only lives inside a photo, or only in the variant menu, may never get read. And put them where they're visible right away, without opening a tab or clicking read more.

1:15The GTIN

The GTIN is the number behind the barcode. In Europe, it's usually the thirteen-digit EAN code. It lets the same product be recognized across different catalogs: your site, Google, a comparison site, an AI assistant. If the product is yours, you get the code from GS1. If you resell, it's the manufacturer's code. If there isn't one, leave the field empty: never make it up.

1:44Price, shipping and returns

Finally, the terms of purchase, written out in full on the page. The price, whether tax is included, and if it's in stock. How much shipping costs, how many days it takes, and the amount where it becomes free. How many days you have for a return, who pays for return shipping, and when the refund arrives. These are exactly the questions people ask before they buy. If the answer is on the product page, the engine finds it there.

2:12Your task for today

Your task for today: pick your five best-selling product pages, and list them in the Product pages tab of the course worksheet. For each one, rewrite the description: who it's for, when, what sets it apart. Then add the attributes in text, the GTIN, and your shipping and return terms.

2:47Next lesson

In the next lesson: Product and Offer structured data, and how to check it with Google's free tools. See you there.
