Before you start
You need a Shopify store with an Online Store 2.0 theme (every recent theme is) and a store admin account. The Free plan needs no card.
1. Install the app
Open the install link we sent you and confirm. The Shopify App Store listing is on its way: once published you can install from there too, with the same result.
Shopify asks you to accept the permissions: products and collections (read and write, for scores and rewrites), content (pages and blog, for the published guides, About, FAQ and /pages/ai-info), store policies (returns and shipping) and navigation (only for the redirects of AI-invented URLs). The app reads neither orders nor customer data.
2. Enable the theme blocks
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds and enable:
- CiteProof · Head data: writes the business data (Organization) and the approved fixes into the theme head.
- CiteProof · Product data: prints the Product schema only when the theme has none. While it stays off nothing changes.
- CiteProof · Article data: prints the BlogPosting (with Breadcrumb) on blog articles only when the theme has none. It also stays off until you turn it on from the app.
Without the first block, "Store truth" cannot apply anything: the app tells you.
3. Password-protected store?
If the store is not open to the public yet, open the Password-protected store? section in the app and enter the storefront password. It is stored encrypted and used only by the page checks, which read the store as a customer would.
4. The first sync
On the first open the app reads products, collections, pages, articles and policies. With a few products it takes under a minute; the Overview shows six numbers at a glance, the To do today box with the three highest-impact actions, the First steps (they tick themselves as you do them) and the Recent activity (what the app wrote to the store and when).
How the app is laid out
The app's menu appears in the Shopify admin sidebar, under the app's name:
- Overview: numbers, to do today, first steps, activity.
- Store: the home as AI engines read it (Organization), robots.txt and AI bots, the
/pages/ai-infopage, the Product schema, the storefront password. - Products: product truth, the sheets to fix, rewrites and alt text.
- Collections: where to start, mini-guides, title and meta, articles.
- Questions: tracked questions by collection, "Measure now", what AI engines get wrong about the store.
- Search Console: titles to rewrite, pages losing clicks, searched questions.
- Pages and blog: page truth, return and shipping policies, articles ready.
- Internal links: the links between sheets and collections.
- Plan and credits: this month's usage, plans, product credits.
What next
Follow the order of "First steps" and then of "To do today": the home page and business data first, then the category to start from, then the product pages. Every action has its own article in this section.
